This Black+Decker BPACT08 portable air conditioning unit is designed for efficient cooling, dehumidifying, and air circulation in small to mid-sized rooms. Equipped with an 8,000 BTU (ASHRAE) capacity (around 4,100 BTU DOE per Black+Decker’s specs)
This Black+Decker BPACT08 portable air conditioning unit is designed for efficient cooling, dehumidifying, and air circulation in small to mid-sized rooms. Equipped with an 8,000 BTU (ASHRAE) capacity (around 4,100 BTU DOE per Black+Decker’s specs)
The unit’s 8,000 BTU (ASHRAE) rating gives a sense of peak cooling power, but its actual performance is closer to 4,100 BTU (DOE) under standard conditions.
Seasonal or realistic efficiency should be considered; over-sizing reduces efficiency, under-sizing may undercool.
Dehumidifier mode is valuable in humid climates, shifting focus from temperature to latent heat (moisture removal).
Auto water evaporation (“MIST technology”) is built into the unit, significantly reducing how often you need to empty water.
Features include a “MAX” function for rapid cooling, timer (up to 24 hours), and sleep mode.
The manual specifies an operating temperature range for the unit: for cooling and dehumidifying, recommended room temperature is 64°F to 95°F (18°C to 35°C).
Proper drainage, cleaning, and correct installation are important for safe and efficient operation.
Although the BPACT08 is rated at 8,000 BTU (ASHRAE), its real-world cooling (DOE) is lower (~4,100 BTU) per the manufacturer. This means that if your room is large (or very hot), the unit may struggle; conversely, in a small room, it may cool quickly but waste energy. Choosing the right-size unit is critical to balance cooling power and efficiency.
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
The main reason for buying an AC, how well does it cool, you ask? Absolutely fantastic! It easily puts out 30-35F colder output air than the ambient temp of the air in the room. Even outputting air lower than 32F,
It wasn't getting as cold over the last month or so. I cleaned the filter then realized I made a mistake. The intake hose was un filtered. Just pulling air from above the unti with the exhaust going outside.
