The AKG P120 is an affordable, entry-level XLR condenser microphone aimed at home-studio recording of vocals, acoustic guitars and other instruments. It features a low-mass diaphragm for clear transient response, a cardioid polar pattern to focus on on-axis sound, and build elements (preattenuation pad and bass cut) that extend its usefulness in project studios where loud sources or room rumble can be an issue. The product is positioned as a reliable, portable condenser for singers and multi-instrumentalists who want better fidelity than a basic dynamic mic without a large budget.

Microphone type & polar pattern — Small (2/3") diaphragm cardioid condenser: detailed capture but more room-sensitive than dynamics.
Connection — XLR only: requires an audio interface or preamp (no USB).
Gain & SPL handling — Can handle high SPLs (up to 150 dB) and includes a -20 dB pad for loud sources.
Low-end control — Built-in bass-cut filter (300 Hz, 6 dB/octave) to reduce proximity boom and room rumble.
As a cardioid condenser with a 2/3-inch diaphragm, the P120 emphasizes clarity and transient detail — ideal for female and male vocals, acoustic guitar, piano and overheads. Because condenser capsules are more sensitive than dynamic elements, the P120 captures nuance but also more room ambience; good placement and some room treatment will noticeably improve results.
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
I really like this microphone. Stunningly good build quality, great shock mount, selectable polar pattern, and a really good case. However, when I got it, it put out a pretty loud 60Hz hum that got much worse when my hand got near the mic. It was upsetting, because I thought it was a poor quality mic.
This mic sounds just as good as one half it’s price. The case was awesome, but the sound quality on this thing isn’t anything special. No complaints. It is a good mic
