The BC365CRS is an all‑in‑one, desktop analog radio scanner that supports up to 500 programmable channels, organized over 10 banks. It covers several frequency bands: it can scan and receive transmissions used by aviation, marine, railroad, marine, amateur radio, NOAA‑style weather frequencies, and conventional (non‑digital) police, fire, and public‑safety communications — as well as standard AM/FM broadcast and FM radio. In addition to scanning, the unit doubles as a clock radio, FM radio, and alarm clock — so you can use it as a bedroom or desktop radio, wake‑up alarm, or general broadcast receiver.

Analog vs. Digital Reception: Whether you only need analog scanning (as supported by this model) or also need digital/trunked‑system support (some agencies have moved to digital).
Channel Capacity & Frequency Coverage: How many channels you need and whether the scanner covers all the frequency bands relevant to your region (aviation, marine, railroad, emergency services, FM radio, etc.).
Use‑Case Versatility: Whether you want a simple scanner for emergencies, weather and broadcasts, or a dedicated professional‑grade scanner with advanced features.
Ease of Use & Setup: For home/desktop use — whether you need simple plug‑and‑play scanning rather than complex programming or antenna installation.
Supplementary Features (Radio, Alarm Clock, FM broadcast): Whether having built-in FM radio, alarm clock, and preset storage adds value for daily use.
Because the BC365CRS supports only conventional analog signals, it works well for older or simple transmissions (FM/AM broadcast, marine/aircraft/beacon/rail, analog public‑safety, NOAA weather). However, many modern police, fire, and EMS services around the world — especially in developed urban areas — have switched to digital/trunked radio systems. If your area uses those, this scanner might not pick them up.
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
I bought this scanner to replace a 30 year old one that I bought back then for $99, which was also a Uniden Scanner. A reminder before you buy, make sure the agencies you want to hear are not digital or trunking as this scanner will not pick them up. Most of what I want to hear in my area are still on analog FM as they have been for decades.
It works and is constructed well, but there are a few quirks to be aware of, and the manual is disappointing. If you feel frustrated trying to get it to do anything, you're not alone!
