A smart plug should seamlessly integrate with popular ecosystems (e.g., Alexa, Google Home) so you can voice-activate connected devices. Compatibility must be bi-directional (i.e., recognized by the assistant and controllable through it).
Smart plugs rely on Wi-Fi networks to communicate. Dual-band support (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz) can improve reliability and reduce dead zones. Network stability impacts performance and responsiveness.
Choose a smart plug with a rating that matches or exceeds the load of the appliances you plan to control. A 15A rating, for example, supports heavier loads up to typical household maximums (~1800 W at 120 V).
App control and scheduling allow users to automate devices based on time, routines, or triggers, which can save energy and enhance convenience.
Certifications like ETL and FCC indicate compliance with safety standards for electrical devices — important when adding smart functionality to mains power outlets.
The GHome Smart Plug works with both Alexa and Google Assistant, enabling hands-free control of connected devices with simple voice commands. Once linked, you can say things like “Alexa, turn off the fan” to manage appliances. Unlike many basic smart plugs limited to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, this model supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, which can offer faster and more stable connections in dense wireless environments. Using the GHome app, Smart Life app, or Tuya app, you can control the plug from anywhere with an internet connection. This makes it easy to turn devices on/off remotely or include them in automation routines.

We have four lights that run on timers and one of those is on a plant ledge in our foyer. We do have a silk “plant” and a light on the ledge. The light was set to come on at 6 PM and go off at 11 PM. Hauling out the extension ladder to reach it was a real pain so over the years the time was a bit off and we never changed it for daylight savings time.
The product was probably fine but after a lot of time spent on getting it coordinated with my other Smart Home/Google/ Nest devices and uploading the app itself I gave up. I didn't want to install one more app, just wanted to have it work quickly and easily. Yes, it turned off the TV (by using the app), but it would not turn it on, light came on, then faded out. I was going for compatible voice control with Google.
